The Kawad Yatra is a sacred journey where devotees of Lord Shiva walk long distances carrying the holy Ganga water. Since the Yatra demands stamina and discipline, proper rest is essential. Along the routes from Haridwar, Rishikesh, and Gaumukh to cities like Delhi, Meerut, and beyond, several rest points (Kawad camps) are set up to support devotees. These rest points provide food, water, medical aid, and shelter, making the journey smoother.

Famous Rest Points on Kawad Routes

1. Muradnagar (Ghaziabad)

One of the busiest points, Muradnagar has several camps with food, water, and shaded rest areas.

2. Modinagar

Located between Ghaziabad and Meerut, Modinagar is a popular halt for Kanwariyas. Many social groups offer free meals and medical help here.

3. Meerut

A major city on the Delhi–Haridwar route, Meerut has countless camps, medical centers, and police assistance for pilgrims.

4. Muzaffarnagar

This stretch has large camps that serve meals, cold water, and space for overnight stays. It’s one of the most important rest hubs on the route.

5. Roorkee

Before reaching Haridwar, Roorkee is a major stop where Kanwariyas take rest and re-energize. Local communities actively support pilgrims here.

6. Haridwar & Rishikesh

The final destination for most devotees, both cities have arrangements for accommodation, food stalls, and medical camps to welcome Kanwariyas.

Tip for Devotees

  • Use official Kawad camps for food and water to ensure hygiene.

  • Take short breaks every few kilometers to avoid fatigue.

  • Avoid overcrowded rest spots if possible for safety.
