For Kanwariyas, the holy Ganga Jal is the most sacred offering carried during the Kawad Yatra to perform Jal Abhishek on Lord Shiva. Since devotees walk long distances with the Kawad on their shoulders, it is very important to ensure that the water is carried safely and respectfully throughout the journey.
✅ Tips to Carry Jal Safely
1. Use a Strong & Balanced Kawad
Choose a well-built Kawad made of bamboo or lightweight metal, with equal balance on both sides to avoid strain and spillage.
2. Secure the Water Pots (Kalash)
Tie the Kalash tightly using cloth or rope. Many Kanwariyas also use protective covers to prevent leakage.
3. Keep the Kawad Elevated
Never place the Kawad directly on the ground. Use a proper stand (Kawad Chabutra) or hang it safely when resting.
4. Walk Carefully & Maintain Balance
Avoid running or pushing in crowds. Walk steadily to keep the Kawad stable and prevent water from spilling.
5. Stay Hydrated but Don’t Mix
Carry a separate bottle of drinking water for yourself. The holy Jal should never be used for drinking.
6. Protect from Sun & Dust
Cover the Kalash with a clean cloth to keep the Jal cool and safe from dust or insects.
7. Respect the Sacredness
Remember, the Ganga Jal is for Lord Shiva’s Abhishek only. Handle it with devotion and care throughout the Yatra.
