The Kawad Yatra is one of the most significant spiritual journeys for devotees of Lord Shiva. Every year, lakhs of Kanwariyas travel on foot from different parts of North India to Haridwar, Rishikesh, and Gaumukh to collect holy Ganga Jal for Jal Abhishek. Among these routes, the Delhi to Haridwar Yatra is one of the busiest and most popular.

Starting Point: Delhi

Devotees usually begin their journey from various temples across Delhi, including Nigambodh Ghat, Burari, and Ghaziabad border areas. From here, they set out towards Haridwar, covering the route mostly on foot.

Main Route (Approx. 200 km)

  1. Delhi → Ghaziabad → Muradnagar → Modinagar
    • The first stretch passes through Ghaziabad and Modinagar, where devotees find many support camps and rest spots.
  2. Modinagar → Meerut → Muzzafarnagar
    • Meerut is a major halt where facilities like medical aid, food, and shelter are arranged for Kanwariyas.
  3. Muzaffarnagar → Roorkee
    • This stretch is considered one of the longest but has many ‘Kawad camps’ offering refreshments and rest.
  4. Roorkee → Haridwar
    • The final leg of the journey brings devotees to the holy city of Haridwar, where they collect sacred Ganga water.
