The Kanwar Yatra in Rishikesh is one of the most sacred pilgrimages for devotees of Lord Shiva. Every year during the holy month of Shravan (July–August), millions of pilgrims known as Kanwariyas visit Rishikesh to collect holy water from the Ganges River. The water is carried in a decorated bamboo structure called a Kanwar and later offered to Shiva temples in their hometowns.

Rishikesh is an important starting point for the Kanwar Yatra because of its sacred ghats and spiritual atmosphere. Devotees collect Ganga Jal from famous places such as Triveni Ghat and begin their journey on foot. Many pilgrims walk hundreds of kilometers barefoot while chanting “Bol Bam” and “Har Har Mahadev,” expressing devotion and faith.

During the yatra, temporary camps, food stalls, and medical facilities are set up along the routes to help pilgrims. The journey is not only a religious ritual but also a symbol of dedication, discipline, and spiritual purification.

For many devotees, the Rishikesh Kanwar Yatra is a once-in-a-lifetime spiritual experience that combines faith, endurance, and the divine blessings of Lord Shiva. 🕉️🙏
