The Kanwar Yatra is one of the most sacred pilgrimages for devotees of Lord Shiva. Every year during the holy month of Shravan, millions of devotees known as Kanwariyas travel from different parts of Uttar Pradesh to the holy city of Haridwar to collect sacred water from the Ganga River. This water is then carried in decorated bamboo structures called Kanwar and offered to Lord Shiva in local temples.

Devotees walk hundreds of kilometers with great devotion and discipline. Popular routes from cities like Meerut, Muzaffarnagar, and Saharanpur lead to Haridwar, where the sacred Ganga water is collected from famous ghats such as Har Ki Pauri. Along the way, volunteers set up camps offering food, medical help, and rest areas for pilgrims.

The journey symbolizes faith, dedication, and spiritual purification. Despite the long distance and physical challenges, Kanwariyas complete the pilgrimage with enthusiasm, chanting “Bol Bam” throughout the route. After collecting the holy water, they return to their hometowns to perform Jal Abhishek on Shiva Lingams in temples.

The Kanwar Yatra from Uttar Pradesh to Haridwar is not just a journey but a powerful expression of devotion and unity among Shiva devotees.
